A: The protagonist is Riva. Riva and her brother are the main characters in The Cage.
Q: Who is the Antagonist?
A: The antagonist was Hitler himself causing the Nazis to be part of it. He uses them as shields and causes Riva her conflicts.
Q: When and where does The Cage take place?
A: The cage starts in 1939 about the same time the war was ending, and it takes place in Lodz, Poland, the Lodz ghetto and Auschwitz later on in the story.
Q: What point of view is the book written in?
A: The Cage is written in third-person point of view.
Q: What is the Tone of The Cage? Does it change throughout the book?
A: The tone of The Cage is different depending on the different parts of the book. It was happy when she was able to adopt her brothers, but then it was very dark and cold when her mother was taken away when she wasn't even sick.. I didn't think that was fair but just because she looked sick doesn't mean she actually was. Its kind is a hard question to answer.
Q: What was the external conflict in the story?
A:The external conflict of the story was was staying alive throughout the whole time she was being transferred between labor camps and getting the blood poisoning and being hospitalized. I also think that another external conflict in the story would be the first time when the Nazis rated their house and almost took her brothers away but i think they had sympathy for Riva.
Q: What was the internal conflict in the story?
A: The internal conflict of the story was when Riva was wondering why the Nazis and Hitler were so mean and cold-hearted. She also was wondering why their main guard was helping her when she was sick and letting her do the poetry with all the other Jewish slave was forced to do.
Q: What's an example of irony, allusion, symbolism, or imagery in The Cage?
A: In the story i could visualize a lot of imagery, but the one line that put a good picture in my head was when her mother used to say "...As long as there is life... there is hope"... This really puts a visual in my mind when she is sitting in the hospital in the camps she is laying there thinking she was gonna be okay and that shes eventually going to see her brothers and sisters soon. I also think shes thinking about how grateful she is for surviving as long as she did in the camps, and in the Lodz ghetto when she was sick.
Q: What is the Climax of the story?
A: The climax of The Cage would have to be when Auschwitz was in the process of getting liberated. Then when the Russians came and found all of the camps she was finally able to go home and proudly say that she is a survivor of the Holocaust/World War II. She didnt move to the United stated right after but she finally made it overseas with her friends and two children, and had two more here.
Q: What is the falling action of the story?
A: The falling action of this story is when Riva was getting better. All her friends were being left alone and so was she.. and then time kept going on and they continued living their life as a slave labor.
