Geography
The novel The Cage mostly takes place in Poland. Hitler had a major effect on Poland. The invasion of Poland was obviously quite big considering its an invasion. Hitler wanted to invade Poland because he wanted to give Germans lebensraum in eastern Europe, because he thought that chamberlain wouldn't dare to stop him, to defend the Germans in Poland, overturn the treaty of Versailles, to oppose communism/conquer Russia, to prevent and anti-German alliance, and the Nazi Soviet Pact. The Nazi Soviet Pact of August 23, 1939 was a pact that not only freed up Hitler to attack Poland, but it included a secret agreement to divide Poland up between them. In the end Hitler still invaded Poland because he had already agreed to do so with Stalin.
